Hello
I have met at some point since my move to Windsor last fall. I am enjoying living in Windsor and have met lots of wonderful people. I have joined the Board of Directors for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and have taken on the role of Chair for the Great Strides Walk of 2013. This is why I am emailing you as I want to let people know about the walk and what the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Canada does and how you can help.
The next Great Strides™ walk will take place across Canada on Sunday, May 26th, with thousands of participants, donors, and volunteers coming together to take steps to cure cystic fibrosis and a goal of $3.45 million. The walk tin Windsor takes place at the Vollmer Centre in LaSalle starting at 11am.
Individual walkers and Teams raise money and pledges for the event. As well money is raised through pledges, sponsorships, and businesses collecting $ for cut outs and this year our crazy sock day. If you, your business or you know of someone who may be interested in supporting the Great Strides walk please contact me. We will also be looking for volunteers to help out the day of the Walk. To register your team or to walk:
The time is now! Start gathering your family and friends for the annual Great Strides™ Walk in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians. It is estimated that 1 in every 3600 children born in Canada has CF. One in every 25 Canadians carries a defective version of the gene that could cause CF – well over one million Canadians.
•Cystic fibrosis primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems. Thick mucus builds up in the lungs and other organs impairing their function until they can no longer work at all. At present there is no cure.
•In 1960 the life expectancy of a child born with CF was just 4 years. Today, due to research supported by Cystic Fibrosis Canada and through the generosity of individuals and corporations, life expectancy has increased into the forties and beyond – a tremendous achievement - but Cystic Fibrosis Canada doesn't intend to stop until a cure or effective means to control this disease is found.
•Cystic Fibrosis Canada is the only charity focused on funding cystic fibrosis research in Canada . The organization is a national, non-profit voluntary health agency with volunteers in 50 Chapters across Canada .
•Too many young lives are cut short by cystic fibrosis; half Canadians with cystic fibrosis who died in 2010 did not live to see their 26th birthday.
Cystic Fibrosis Canada 's mission is to help people with cystic fibrosis
•funds research towards the goal of a cure or control for cystic fibrosis
•supports high quality CF care
•promotes public awareness of cystic fibrosis, and
•raises and allocates funds for these purposes.

Is new home construction struggling in Windsor?
Today's Windsor Star has a blog article by Monica Wolfson, where she says that 30 percent of new homes built, were in Windsor - "down from the 51 per cent share of residential construction" this city had in 2002. Why are they comparing stats with 2002 instead of last year or the year before? Of course it's going to be down from a decade ago. Look at what's happened in that time span, not just here, but all over the world.
Meanwhile, comparisons for surrounding communities were compared with their new build stats from 2006. This just reinforces the idea that people are leaving this city.
I agree the development fees are too high and taxes are high, we pay too much for utilities and we have a bit of a black eye as a community. Articles like this, that attack our growth based on decade old data, isn't making things better for any of us. As well, one person says there's a "glut of resale homes" and another says we need to revitalize urban areas but can't because no one wants to live on some of the existing streets downtown or on the westside.
Seriously, it's too contradictory and confusing. Just compare apples to apples and see if things look better.

Closure of Community Pools Is A Colossal Error
PLEASE SHARE THIS.
THE CITY IS EXPECTING PUBLIC OPPOSITION SO LETS GIVE IT THEM.
CLOSURE OF COMMUNITY POOLS IS A COLOSSAL ERROR
Families come to depend on community pools and their facilities in particular during summer months. Swim camps are close by for the kids to independently ride their bike or walk to; as well enjoy the day at the variety of other activities at a minimal cost. The Aquatic Centre will be a costly venue out of reach for many communities. These community complexes are part of urban planning models that were implemented many decades ago. They encourage social wellness and cohesion for the community it surrounds. They are messing with an important urban planning model. The people will feel the loss.
HERE ARE EXAMPLES OF WHAT THEY OFFER.
Do you think the Aquatic Centre will be able to replace this in One Location.
Constable John Atkinson Memorial Community Centre
The Atkinson Memorial Centre is located within AKO Park, featuring the AKO spray pad, which is open to the public free-of-charge during the summer. There are sports fields and a play unit in the park. This centre now features an NBA-size gym with wooden floor available for community rentals, plus the original smaller gym;
