CLOSURE OF COMMUNITY POOLS IS A COLOSSAL ERROR

Families come to depend on community pools and their facilities in particular during summer months. Swim camps are close by for the kids to independently ride their bike or walk to; as well enjoy the day at the variety of other activities at a minimal cost. The Aquatic Centre will be a costly venue out of reach for many communities. These community complexes are part of urban planning models that were implemented many decades ago. They encourage social wellness and cohesion for the community it surrounds. They are messing with an important urban planning model. The people will feel the loss.

Constable John Atkinson Memorial Community Centre

The Atkinson Memorial Centre is located within AKO Park, featuring the AKO spray pad, which is open to the public free-of-charge during the summer. There are sports fields and a play unit in the park. This centre now features an NBA-size gym with wooden floor available for community rentals, plus the original smaller gym;

AMC Sport Gym
Dimensions: 84' x 118'
This NBA size gym is ideal for adult league sports. It features a sprung wooden floor, male and female change rooms and natural lighting.

The facility is available year round for special events, rentals, and leisure programs.
Gymnasium
Capacity: 20-150 people
The Gymnasium is available for birthday parties, meetings, and social gatherings. A stage is connected to the Gym, and the kitchen is adjacent with a pass-through window.
The Gym is suitable for large parties and leisure sports, but it is not regulation size for basketball, floor hockey, or volleyball.
ABC Room
Dimensions: 24' x 90'
Capacity: 20-40 people

The ABC Room is a large room with lots of windows, excellent for meetings or social events. It can be rented as a single large room or divided into three separate rooms (24' x 30' each). Rates vary depending on the size of the room.


Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex

Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex is located within Wilson Park. The complex includes a 25-metre heated pool with a diving area, a therapy pool, community rooms, and a single pad arena. Information on rentals and programming is available at www.reconnectwindsor.ca.

Pool
Dimensions: 25-metre heated pool

The warm water pool is available for private rentals. There is a stairway entrance into the pool as well as lifts for persons with disabilities.
Therapy Pool
A heated therapy pool ideal for persons recuperating from hip, knee and back injuries is available for rental.
Ice Rink
Dimensions: 85' x 200'

Single pad arena with bleacher seating is available for ice rentals from late August through March. Floor rentals with no ice available during other months.
