Hello

I have met at some point since my move to Windsor last fall.  I am enjoying living in Windsor and have met lots of wonderful people.  I have joined the Board of Directors for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and have taken on the role of Chair for the Great Strides Walk of 2013.  This is why I am emailing you as I want to let people know about the walk and what the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Canada does and how you can help.

The next Great Strides™ walk will take place across Canada on Sunday, May 26th, with thousands of participants, donors, and volunteers coming together to take steps to cure cystic fibrosis and a goal of $3.45 million. The walk tin Windsor takes place at the Vollmer Centre in LaSalle starting at 11am.
Individual walkers and Teams raise money and pledges for the event.  As well money is raised through pledges, sponsorships, and businesses collecting $ for cut outs and this year our crazy sock day.  If you, your business or you know of someone who may be interested in supporting the Great Strides walk please contact me.   We will also be looking for volunteers to help out the day of the Walk.  To register your team or to walk:

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians. It is estimated that 1 in every 3600 children born in Canada has CF. One in every 25 Canadians carries a defective version of the gene that could cause CF – well over one million Canadians.
•Cystic fibrosis primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems. Thick mucus builds up in the lungs and other organs impairing their function until they can no longer work at all. At present there is no cure.

•In 1960 the life expectancy of a child born with CF was just 4 years. Today, due to research supported by Cystic Fibrosis Canada and through the generosity of individuals and corporations, life expectancy has increased into the forties and beyond – a tremendous achievement - but Cystic Fibrosis Canada doesn't intend to stop until a cure or effective means to control this disease is found.

•Cystic Fibrosis Canada is the only charity focused on funding cystic fibrosis research in Canada. The organization is a national, non-profit voluntary health agency with volunteers in 50 Chapters across Canada.
•Too many young lives are cut short by cystic fibrosis; half Canadians with cystic fibrosis who died in 2010 did not live to see their 26th birthday.

Cystic Fibrosis Canada's mission is to help people with cystic fibrosis
•funds research towards the goal of a cure or control for cystic fibrosis
•supports high quality CF care
•promotes public awareness of cystic fibrosis, and
•raises and allocates funds for these purposes.
